Question 1: How do we know there is a God?

Everything God made—like the stars and the trees—and our feeling of right and wrong tell us that God is real.

Question 2: What is the Word of God?

The Old and New Testaments are God’s inspired Word. They are the only perfect rule for what to believe, and how to live.

Question 3: How do we know that the Bible is the Word of God?

The Bible proves it is God’s Word by its amazing power to change hearts and lives, and by the way every part points to Jesus. Only God’s Spirit can make us truly believe and love it.

Question 4: What do the Scriptures mainly teach?

The Bible tells us what to believe about God and how God wants us to live — and it all leads to Jesus.

Question 5: What is God?

God is the only real God. He made everything, He never changes, and He is perfect in power, love, goodness, wisdom, and truth.

Question 6: How many persons are there in the Godhead?

There is only one God, but He is three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Question 7: What are the decrees of God?

God has a perfect plan for everything that ever happens, and he decided it all before the world began, so that he will get the most glory forever.

Question 8: How does God execute his decrees?

God makes everything happen exactly the way he planned — by creating the world and by ruling over it every day.

Question 9: What are God’s works of providence?

God keeps everything in the universe going every day. He takes care of it all, and makes sure his perfect plan happens.

Question 10: What is the work of creation?

God made everything out of nothing, just by speaking. He created the whole world and everything in it, and it was all very good.

Question 11: How and why did God create us?

God made us male and female in his image, to know Him, love Him, live with Him, and glorify him.

Question 12: What is the duty which God requires of man?

God requires man to obey him perfectly, from the heart, in faith and love, to the glory of God.

Question 13: What did God reveal to man for the duty he requires?

From the very beginning, God put his law inside every person’s heart so we would know right from wrong. Later he wrote the Ten Commandments to make it extra clear.

Question 14: Under the Old Covenant, what does God require in the first, second, and third commandments?

First, that we know God as the only true God. Second, that we avoid all idolatry. Third, that we treat God’s name with fear and reverence.

Question 18: What is the sum of the Ten Commandments, under the Old Covenant?

Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor the same way you love yourself.

Question 19: Can anyone keep the law of God perfectly?

Since the fall, no human has been able to keep the law of God perfectly.

Question 20: Did God create us unable to keep his law?

No, but because of the disobedience of Adam and Eve we are all born in sin and guilt, unable to keep God’s law.

Question 21: Since no one can keep the law, what is its purpose?

God gave the law to show how perfect He is, to show us how much we sin, and to make us run to Jesus — because only Jesus can save us.

Question 22: Are all transgressions of the law equally evil in God’s sight?

No. Some sins are worse than others because they hurt God or people more, or because they are done on purpose by someone who knows better.

Question 23: What is sin?

Sin is anything we think, say, or do that disobeys God and does not love him with our whole heart.

Question 24: Did all mankind fall in Adam’s first sin?

Yes. When Adam sinned, we all sinned with him. So we are born guilty and with hearts that want to sin — but Jesus came to rescue us!

Question 25: Will God allow our disobedience to go unpunished?

No. God is perfectly good and just, and must punish every sin.

Question 26: Is there any way to escape the guilt and power of sin and the judgment we deserve?

Yes! God loves us so much that he made a New Promise: He sent Jesus to take our punishment, forgive our sins, give us new hearts, and bring us safely to him.

Question 27: What makes the New Covenant new and better?

The old promise couldn’t fix our hard hearts but through the New Covenant: God forgives every sin, writes his rules inside us, gives us his Spirit, and makes us really know and love him.

Question 28: How did God establish this New Covenant?

God made the New Covenant through the death of Jesus - who is truly God and truly man.

Question 29: Why must the Redeemer be truly human?

Jesus had to be a real human so he could obey God perfectly for us, take our punishment on the cross, and so we could know that he truly understands our struggles.

Question 30: Why must the Redeemer be truly God?

Jesus had to be God so his perfect life and death could pay for everyone’s sins, beat death, and carry God’s judgment for us.

Question 31: Who is the Redeemer of the New Covenant?

The only Redeemer is Jesus Christ, God’s Son. He became a man and gave himself as the one perfect sacrifice so we could be saved.

Question 32: As Redeemer and Ratifier of the New Covenant, what does Jesus Christ receive?

Jesus receives His Church and receives His everlasting kingdom. He defeats all enemies and rules over everything for God’s glory.

Question 33: Why was it necessary for Christ, the Redeemer, to die?

Death is the penalty for our sin. Jesus died willingly in our place, bearing the curse to secure our complete forgiveness and eternal life.

Question 34: Are all people, just as they were lost through Adam, saved through Christ?

No. Everyone is lost because of Adam, but only those who trust Jesus Christ are saved. God still shows kindness and gives blessings to all people.

Question 35: Does God show grace even to the unbeliever?

Yes. God is kind to everyone. He holds back sin and gives good things like rain and food, even to people who don’t love him.

Question 36: What happens after death to those not united to Christ by faith?

They will stand before God and be sent away from him into hell, where they will be punished for their sin forever.

Question 37: How can we be saved?

Only by trusting Jesus and what he did on the cross. God freely forgives us and gives us Jesus’ perfect goodness when we turn from sin and believe in Him.

Question 38: What blessings flow from our union with Christ?

All good spiritual gifts come from being joined to Jesus, like being declared not guilty, becoming God’s own children, and growing to be more like him.

Question 39: What do justification, adoption, and sanctification mean?

Justification means that God says we are not guilty because Jesus took our punishment. Adoption means that God makes us his own children forever. Sanctification means that God’s Spirit helps us grow to love and obey Him more every day.

Question 40: Should those who have faith in Christ seek their salvation through their own works, or anywhere else?

No. Jesus did everything needed to save us. Trying to earn it by good works says Jesus’ cross wasn’t enough.

Question 41: Since we are redeemed by grace, apart from works, what purpose do good works now serve?

Yes. Jesus saved us so we would love doing good things for him, not to earn heaven, but because heaven is already ours.

Question 42: Since we are redeemed by grace alone, through faith alone, where does this faith come from?

All the good gifts we receive from Jesus, including the faith to trust him, are given to us by the Holy Spirit.

Question 43: What new desires does the Holy Spirit give to the Redeemed?

The Holy Spirit gives us new desires to love God and others, to hate sin, and to live a life that honors Jesus to the glory of the Father.

Question 44: Will Christians still sin after they are saved?

Yes, we still sin, but we don’t love sin anymore. When we sin happens, we feel sorry, tell God, and turn away from it because Jesus has set us free.

Question 45: When Christians sin, will they face condemnation?

No.! Jesus already took all our punishment on the cross. When we sin, God corrects us like a loving Father, but he never turns away from us.

Question 46: How does God help Christians obey him?

God helps us obey by his Holy Spirit who lives inside us, by the Bible that teaches us, by prayer, and by other Christians who love and help us.

Question 48: Why do Christians still face trials and suffering?

God uses trials to make us like Jesus, make our faith strong, help us comfort others, and prove Jesus is the most precious to us.

Question 49: What is the Christian’s great hope while living in this world?

Our great hope is that Jesus is coming again to make us perfect, stop all suffering, make a new world, and live with us forever.

Question 50: How should Christians live while waiting for Jesus to return?

We should live holy lives, love and serve each other, tell people about Jesus, and do everything to honour God.

Question 51: What do we believe about the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is God, just like the Father and the Son. He lives inside every person who trusts Jesus, and he never leaves.

Question 54: With what attitude should we pray?

We pray with love, patience, and thanks, humbly trusting God's will. We know He always hears us because of Jesus.

Question 55: What should we pray?

We should pray what the whole Bible teaches. Our best model is the prayer Jesus taught us, called the Lord's Prayer.

Question 57: How is the Word of God to be read and heard?

We read and listen to the Bible carefully, with ready hearts and prayer, so we can believe it, remember it, and obey it every day.

Question 58: What is the invisible church?

The invisible church is all the people God has chosen to save—from the past, present, and future—who truly belong to Jesus.

Question 59: What is the visible church?

The visible church is a family of baptized believers who meet together regularly to love Jesus, learn from the Bible, pray, take communion, and help each other follow Him.

Question 60: What are the ordinances?

The ordinances are the two special things Jesus told us to do—baptism and the Lord’s Supper. They show everyone that we belong to Jesus and remind us of His death and resurrection.

Question 61: What is baptism?

Baptism is when a person who loves Jesus is put all the way under water and brought back up. It shows everyone they have turned away from sin, trust Jesus, and now belong to Him and His church.

Question 62: To whom is Baptism to be administered?

Baptism is only for those who have repented of sin, put their faith in Jesus, and want to obey Him.

Question 63: Are the infants of professing believers to be baptized?

No. The Bible does not have any command or example for baptizing babies. Baptism is only for those who believe in Jesus.

Question 64: Why do we baptize only those who profess faith?

We baptize only people who say they trust Jesus because baptism shows the new life Jesus has already put inside their hearts.

Question 65: What is the duty of those who are rightly baptized?

People who have been baptized should join a Bible-believing church and live there as faithful followers of Jesus.

Question 66: What is the Lord’s Supper?

The Lord's Supper is a meal Jesus commanded . It strengthens our faith and helps us thankfully remember His death and our union with Christ and each other.

Question 67: What is required to rightly receive the Lord’s Supper?

We must examine ourselves to make sure we understand the meal is for the entire church to remember Jesus' sacrifice, which saved us and joined us together as one body.

Question 68: Does the Lord’s Supper add anything to Christ’s atoning work?

No, Jesus finished the work on the cross. The Supper only celebrates His sacrifice and strengthens our faith until He returns.

Question 69: Where is Christ now?

Christ rose from the dead and is now seated with God the Father in Heaven. He is ruling His kingdom and praying for us, until He returns.

Question 70: What does Christ’s resurrection mean for us?

Christ’s resurrection means He beat death, giving us new life now and forever with Him. One day we will be resurrected, and the world will be restored.

Question 71: What hope does everlasting life hold for us?

Everlasting life means this broken world isn’t the end. Jesus will make a perfect new earth where we’ll live happily with God forever, with new bodies and no more sin or sadness.
